FAST FACTS: Facility Upgrades

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the implementation of a new cost efficient energy program and referendum projects for the 2016-2017 school year. As highlighted in the presentation to the Board of Education, a new program of significance to the District is the Energy Savings Improvement Program (ESIP). ESIP included the installation of LED lighting throughout the district, high-efficiency boilers and enhanced boiler controls, upgraded building manage­ment systems, among additional equipment condition monitors. These upgrades improve operations and energy efficiency with no additional cost to the Verona taxpayer through the State approved New Jersey Clean Energy Program. The replacement of antiquated lighting with newer, more energy efficient technology will help us reduce our carbon footprint while reducing energy consumption.

The progress of the referendum is the result of the collective efforts of many people over the past several years. The majority of the projects were conducted over the past two summers and continued through Fall 2016. The recent projects include the Verona High School music room addition, Thomas J. Sellitto multipurpose athletic field, VHS tennis courts, mechanical system replacement, masonry repairs, and kitchen renovations at HEW and VHS. The multipurpose athletic lower field is currently under construction and in the final stages with an anticipated completion date of December 2016 just in time for Spring 2017.

Outside of the referendum, additional facilities projects throughout the district include stair tread replacement that improve aesthetics and safety, restroom renovations, concrete walkway replacement, gymnasium floor refurbishment, and paver walkway installation. A special thank you to our custodial and maintenance staff for all of their hard work and efforts to help make our schools a safe and inviting place for children to learn.
